Malosma laurina is a large, rounded evergreen shrub or small tree growing 10–15 feet tall. Western gray squirrels eat berries, nuts, a variety of seeds, and the eggs of small birds.

The canyons tend to be hotter than the weather stations report, as there are no stations in the park. There are believed to be several subspecies, including the black-tailed deer.
